Constructions stopped on the highway from San Jose to Caldera

The Tribunal Ambiental Administrativo has stopped construction on much of the new highway, Autopistas del Sol S.A. is not allowed to continue with the work on the section between Ciudad Colon and Orotina.

The Tribunal Ambiental Administrativo said it was concerned by the effects of construction was having on the Barva aquifer and on about 20 rivers and streams.

The part from Ciudad Colon to Caldera was supposed to be finished in July 2010. Now it is questionable if Autopistas del Sol S.A. will be able to meet the deadline.

The rainy season is much milder than usual this year thanks to El Niño. This year the dry season will start 1 or 2 weeks earlier in Guanacaste, in the last 2 weeks of October.
