Flamingo Beach is a well known destination among travelers that like sport fishing and this was one of the few beach towns with a marina. In 2003 the marina was closed because supposedly the marina was not in compliance with certain water quality regulations.
Until then various companies have tried to get permissions to open and operate a new marina at Flamingo Beach. Thanks to this white beach, Flamingo Beach is also known as Playa Blanca, White Beach.
This is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Accommodations are in the medium and upper price range. Many of the villas and hotels are located in the hills and they offer their guests a fantastic ocean view. Visitors who don't want to stay in a hotel can rent their own villa complete with maid and chef. Many of the properties and hotel resorts are owned by foreigners and foreign corporations.
Flamingo Beach was once something like the capital of sport fishing in Costa Rica, many boat owners have since moved their boats to the marina in Herradura. Business has slowed down a bit, but it is only a question of time when before the new marina opens.
The boats that remained in Flamingo Beach now anchor in the bay and one has to use a dingy to reach them. Sport fishing tours and sunset sailing trips are still offered in this gorgeous beach town.
Exotic dive spots are near by and dive schools offer classes for PADI certificates.
Skippers from other countries have to pass the toll and immigration in Playas del Coco before they can anchor in Flamingo Beach.
